I appreciate all the comments, off-line as well as online, regarding our CHAS workshops at national meetings. The workshop program is not intended to be an answer to all continuing education needs; I certainly wish it could be, but fully understand the cost considerations that many, if not most of our members have to consider. When we started offering workshops at national meetings in 1995 (yes, it’s been 25 years), the economic and logistical considerations were completely different. There were no “online” resources at all. No Skype, no webinars, and far fewer software & video editing options. We certainly need to consider additional options for providing education & training beyond in-person presentations at ACS meetings. However, this is what we have now. CHAS does not have the resources “in-house” to expand, and the “workshops committee” is well, me, Mary Beth Koza, who handles the registration finances, and the program chairs who handle room scheduling. I would hope that those of you who have great ideas might be willing to step up and support additional education scenarios; perhaps this is something that could be addressed at the next CHAS strategic planning session.

In the meantime, we do have people who have registered for these workshops in Philadelphia who would like to attend. Right now, we’d be canceling the entire program for lack of registrations. So… please encourage those who can afford to attend to register and lets continue to brainstorm how to expand our offerings in a 21st century way…

Thank you again for all the comments.

Russ
