The Semiconductor Environmental Safety and Health Association
(SESHA) is seeking input and assistance in addressing a shortage
of EHS professionals in the industry. Please see the email body

A number of industries, including the high-tech space that I have served for the last 15 years, are facing a severe talent shortage due to retirement of older professionals. The same can be said for the loss of critical skills possessed by senior EHS professionals as they retire in the coming years. The loss of this knowledge will jeopardize the industry's ability to address chemical, physical and biological hazards and risks, threatening the very foundation of the industry and posing serious business continuity concerns.
To address this issue, SESHA and Vichara Partners are launching a new EHS Workforce Development Initiative to cultivate the next generation of EHS professionals for the high-tech sector. We are working towards a multi-organization, multi-year strategic plan to be published in April 2021. We are also undertaking an extensive outreach campaign to engage stakeholders and to invite organizations to participate in this Initiative. We would like to take this opportunity to formally invite you, the ACS organization, and various ACS Institutes, Divisions, and Committees to join us in this collective effort. This could include the Green Chemistry Institute (GCI), the Division of Chemical Health and Safety (CHAS), the Committee on Environmental Improvement (CEI), the Committee on Chemical Safety (CCS), the Committee on Economic and Professional Affairs (CEPA), the Women Chemists Committee (WCC), the Committee on Minority Affairs (CMA).
Please find attached a 12-page proposal which summarizes the salient points of this Initiative. You can also visit www.vicharapartners.com/workforce-development to learn more. Please feel free to forward this email (and attachment) to those within ACS that may be interested in addressing this EHS workforce development concern.
We are holding a series of conference calls in the month of December to share information on this EHS Workforce Development Initiative so that you (and others) can learn more about our plans and explore how you may want to contribute to these collective efforts. These meetings are scheduled for:
- Tuesday, December 10 at 3:00 PM PST | 6:00 PM EST
- Friday, December 13 at 7:00 AM PST | 10:00 AM EST
- Monday, December 16 at 1:00 PM PST | 4:00 PM EST
- Wednesday, December 18 at 9:00 AM PST | 12:00 PM EST
