Eric et al,

The Eyewash and Shower group met yesterday morning for several hours.

Many issues were discussed. Subcommittees were formed to look into various issues, and it may be that in a year or 2 we will convene again to contemplate potential changes which would re-set the 5-year update cycle. The 2019 version should be available sometime early next year (2020)

The employer who installed the equipment should activate the equipment weekly for only long enough to assure that the opening valve operates properly, that flushing fluid is available, and to clear the dead leg of piping of particulate matter and bacterial contamination to prevent the development of biofilms which could spread such diseases as Legionaires Disease. Yearly, the employer should conduct the full 15 minute activation and verify that the equipment remains in compliance with the plumbed equipment sections of the Standard .

The frequent full 15-minute activation is the responsibility of the equipment manufacturer and the 3rd party certifying organization which they have chosen to do so.

This is given for information purposes only. I assume no responsibility or liability for its interpretation. Those who wish to be in compliance with the Z358-1 Standard should obtain a copy of the most recent revision from the International Safety Equipment Association and follow it.

Dr. Hall,

Is there any word as to what changes may be included with the Z358.1
2019 revision?

Thanks in advance.
