Below are some recent announcements:

EPA Seeking Comment on New PFAS Test Method 8327

EPA is making available for public comment a new analytical method to measure Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in various environmental matrices. This method is part of EPA's actions to address the growing concerns with PFAS chemicals in the environment as well as to satisfy a short-term commitment in EPA's PFAS Action Plan for PFAS test method development.

For 'non-potable' water matrices, EPA has developed and validated Method 8327 - a direct injection and external standard liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method to evaluate and measure 24 PFAS analytes. This method will help the laboratory community (e.g., EPA Regions, commercial, and state labs) better evaluate PFAS chemicals in groundwater, surface water, and wastewater.

The data validation was completed in Spring 2019 and the validated method will be open for public comment for 30 days. Comments can be submitted through the‰?řEPA Docket‰?řfor this method,‰?řID#‰?řEPA-HQ-OLEM-2018-0846.

Proposed Approval of Georgia's Coal Ash Permit Program Out for Public Comment

EPA has preliminarily determined that Georgia's Coal Combustion Residuals (known as CCR or coal ash) state permit program meets the standard for approval under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. EPA is proposing to approve the application submitted by Georgia Environmental Protection Division to allow their permit program to operate in lieu of the federal CCR program. However, there are specific provisions of the federal CCR program that the state is not seeking approval for, which are outlined in the Federal Register notice.

EPA is taking public comment on this proposal during a 60-day period. EPA will also hold a public hearing on August 6, 2019.

EPA hosted a webinar about EPA's updates to the Planning for Natural Disaster Debris Guidance, which was developed to assist communities (including cities, counties, states, tribes) in planning for debris management before a natural disaster occurs. This webinar provided an overview of the guidance and highlight lessons learned and best practices.

The Hazardous Waste Electronic Manifest (e-Manifest) System

Advisory Board Public Meeting Held

EPA convened the e-Manifest Advisory Board for a public meeting on June 18-20, 2019. The meeting was held to obtain advice from the board on "Increasing Adoption of the e-Manifest System." The Agency has received feedback from the user community that clarifying the requirements and implementation of EPA's Cross Media Electronic Reporting Rule (CROMERR) is one way to encourage greater adoption of fully electronic manifests. The Agency addressed this topic and presented ideas for consideration by the Board.
