JOSEPH ‰?? It wasn't just an ordinary dive for Lisa Anderson and William Lambert, who always go looking for items in the bottom of Wallowa Lake. This one just happened to be a little different.
Anderson and Lambert, members of Blue Mountain Divers, a nonprofit scuba diving organization that seeks to find, recover, and preserve historic and archeological objects that are now at the bottoms of lakes and rivers, were scuba diving in the south end of Wallowa Lake near the marina in August 2018 where the water deepens abruptly. Working at depths of 50 to 120 feet, where the water deepens abruptly just north of the marina, they found a metal milk jug, and a couple of other odds and ends.
Then the duo saw the barrels.
They bore labels that said "2, 4-D or 2, 4, 5-T WEED KILLER."
‰??There were about 25, 55-gallon drums, and a dozen bigger 100-gallon barrels,‰?? said Blue Mountain Divers member Lisa Anderson. ‰??It looked as though they had been there for a while ‰?? 10, 20 years or more. The smaller drums were corroded, and whatever was in them had probably already leaked out. But the big ones were sturdier. They seemed to be intact.‰??

SAN DIEGO, June 4 (Reuters): On the afternoon of May 5, college student John Nothdurft was watching TV at his suburban San Diego home when a series of explosions shook the house. Around the corner, on Sunny Meadow Street, flames billowed from a neighbor‰??s garage.
A man was running down the street. He was on fire.
Nothdurft, 18, tried to comfort the man as a neighbor sprayed him with a garden hose. ‰??His skin kind of looked like it had melted off,‰?? he recalled.
Investigators quickly determined the cause of the blaze: a butane-gas explosion resulting from an illegal attempt to make a concentrated form of marijuana. Known as hash oil or honey oil, the product can be consumed in vape pens, candies, waxes and other forms that are increasingly popular.
The Sunny Meadow Street explosion illustrates a growing danger as marijuana moves from the counterculture to the mainstream, law enforcement officials told Reuters. With cannabis now legal for medical or recreational use in 33 states and the District of Columbia, users are discovering new ways of consuming the drug.

FILMING of the jinxed 25th James Bond outing has been disrupted after a planned explosion went wrong, injuring a crew member.
The blast also damaged part of Pinewood Studios, ripping off sections of the roof and walls at the site in Buckinghamshire yesterday.
Photos showed large holes and panels hanging from the famous 007 Stage.
The explosion happened during filming of a scene in which a fireball rips through a laboratory.

A tanker truck driver is lucky to be alive following an explosion and fire at an oil and chemical storage terminal in California this week.
The explosion occurred just before 6 a.m. on Monday, June 3, in Carson, California, according to the LA Times.
The explosion happened as workers were loading jet fuel into a tanker truck at the Kinder Morgan terminal.
The explosion was reportedly felt a mile away and sent up huge plumes of black smoke into the sky.

Lake County and the Illinois Attorney General‰??s Office have filed a lawsuit against AB Specialty Silicones of Waukegan seeking a cleanup and civil penalties after last month‰??s explosion at the plant released chemicals into the environment.
‰??This explosion was tragic, and my thoughts are with the families who lost loved ones as a result,‰?? Attorney General Kwame Raoul said in a statement referring to the four factory workers killed in the May 3 explosion.
‰??As the community continues to recover from the trauma of this event, I have filed this lawsuit to protect residents and the environment from any chemical contamination,‰?? Raoul added.
In the same statement, Lake County State‰??s Attorney Mike Nerheim said his office plans to ‰??work diligently with the Illinois Attorney General‰??s Office, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to seek remediation of any environmental impacts as a result of the explosion.‰??

person was injured when an explosion ignited a fire at an oil and chemical storage terminal in Carson early Monday.
The blaze was reported about 5:40 a.m. at Kinder Morgan‰??s terminal at 2000 E. Sepulveda Blvd. The explosion, which sparked a fire, occurred as a truck was either loading or unloading jet fuel at the facility, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
It took about 80 firefighters less than an hour to knock down the blaze, authorities said. Video from the scene showed fire engines spraying the facility with white foam.

HYDERABAD: A 21-year-old worker died at an explosives factory when a chemical used for manufacturing detonators exploded in one of the storage points at the unit at Bommalaramaram on Monday morning. The victim, Golu Kashyap, a native of Chattisgarh, died on the spot.
The incident happened at Regenesis Industries Pvt Ltd, an explosives manufacturing factory, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Bhongir, K Narayana Reddy said.
Around 10.30am, Kashyap picked up a static rubber bottle containing 750 grams nickel hydrazine nitrate, a chemical used for manufacturing detonators (3,000 detonators can be manufactured with 750 grams of the chemical). His job was to keep the rubber bottle in the storage unit. After Golu entered the store room, an explosion occurred and he died on the spot, the DCP said.
Police suspect that Golu might have accidentally dropped the bottle, triggering an explosion. The chemical in the bottle exploded first igniting explosive chemical in 47 other bottles in the room. Due to the intensity of the explosion, the body of the victim was severed into pieces, the DCP added.

One person has been taken to hospital following a chemical spill inside a lab at Fanshawe College in east London.
Members of the London fire department, including the HAZMAT response team, initially responded to the scene Monday afternoon after receiving a report of a possible chemical explosion.
The fire prevention inspector is investigating but officials have determined the incident was a minor chemical spill inside a lab in D building, not an explosion.

For the first time since 1992, the state is revising safety rules that aim to prevent fires, explosions and releases of toxic chemicals at the state‰??s five oil refineries.
Representatives from labor and environmental groups say stronger safety rules will better protect workers and the communities and environment near refineries.
Community members filled a room at the Burlington Senior Center on May 2 to learn about the rules update. The meeting was hosted by United Steelworkers Local 12-591, BlueGreen Alliance, a labor/environmental group, and environmental groups Evergreen Islands and RE Sources for Sustainable Communities.
A public comment period on the proposed changes is set to begin this summer.
USW Local 12-591 President George Welch said at the meeting that 16 of its union members have died in incidents since 1955.
That includes 13 at March Point refineries near Anacortes, where six killed in 1998 at the Equilon refinery ‰?? now Shell Puget Sound Refinery ‰?? and seven in 2010 at the Tesoro refinery, which is now Marathon.
Union member and Shell employee Ken Wilson said deadly refinery incidents have one thing in common.
‰??All of them were preventable,‰?? he said. ‰??Each and every one.‰??
Steve Garey, former USW Local 12-591 president and retired refinery employee, said workplace deaths have haunted him his entire life.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- An explosion at a chemical plant in Santa Clara County this past weekend has the drivers of hydrogen fueled vehicles going nowhere fast.
The facility is owned and operated by Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a hydrogen supplier.
It's supposed to be the fuel of the future but along with innovation there are growing pains.
Hydrogen fueling stations across the Bay Area were down Monday following the explosion.

Officials have released an alert to Nelson County residents following an ammonia leak Sunday afternoon.
According to fire officials, an ammonia leak at a factory in Bardstown forced nearby businesses to evacuate. Crews responded to the scene on Wilson Parkway around 4 p.m. Sunday. The leak took about two hours to contain.
Jefferson County hazmat crews also responded to the scene to provide assistance. Authorities said about 5,000 gallons of the chemical was spilled.
Nelson County officials have issued an alert for residents within a 1-mile radius of Wilson Parkway. They are asked to go indoors, close doors and windows and turn off their air conditioning units as a result of the leak.

An explosion and fire at a chemical products company Saturday prompted evacuations of nearby businesses while the Santa Clara Fire Department worked to contain the blaze.
The fire was reported about 4:30 p.m. at Air Products and Chemicals Inc. near the 1500 block of Norman Avenue, where crews found multiple hydrogen tanker trucks on fire in the facility yard.
Neighboring businesses in a two-block radius were asked to evacuate or shelter-in-place for about two hours.
Ladder trucks were deployed and the fire was reported extinguished at 5:40 p.m.
"Additional air sampling and thermal imaging was conducted to ensure air quality, and the hydrogen, which is not visible when burning in the daytime, did not pose a threat," the department said in a release.
