As part of its outreach to the chemistry community in the International Year of the Periodic Table, the Division of Chemical Health and Safety partnered with the Princeton University Department of Environmental Health and Safety to develop a "Periodic Table of the Elements of Safety". This table is designed to present general concepts of laboratory chemical safety is a quick view format organized around the RAMP paradigm. In addition to these technical elements of lab chemical safety, it also includes two cultural rows of elements that identify historic figures of chemical safety, both heroes and martyrs.
The table is now available for download at the CHAS web site at
http://dchas.org/2019/03/13/periodic-table-of-ehs-elements/
There are links to two PDF files, one with the table itself and another with an explanatory legend that describes the various elements we've identified within the table. There is also an interactive version of the table on this page that explains the general regions of the table, which are color coded.
We recognize that the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements is not yet finalized and we expect this table to evolve as it is used, so comments on ways to improve the table are appreciated. We hope that this will be both an eye catching conversation starter and a useful tool for people who are conducting laboratory risk assessments.
Please feel free to spread the word about the availability of this tool!
