----------
The American Chemical Society is sponsoring a workshop to educate graduate students about lab safety culture and opportunities for promoting safety in their schools. It is called "Developing Graduate Student Leadership Skills in Laboratory Safety" and will be held at the Spring National Meeting on Sunday March 31st from 3-6 p.m.
This three-hour workshop will be led by Kali Miller, a PhD candidate from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Dr. Kendra Denlinger of Xavier University, who are both members of the ACS Committee on Chemical Safety with extensive laboratory safety program experience. They will describe current programs and research emphasizing the challenges and opportunities of safety culture in the academic environment.
The purpose is to help develop individualized plans for the creation or improvement of student safety programs. Other key topics include hazard assessment, risk management, safety management practices, and complementary top-down approaches. This workshop is primarily directed at graduate student issues, but faculty and staff are encouraged to participate.
Space is limited!
