The Dillard Building on Clemson's campus was evacuated Tuesday morning over a potential hazmat incident, a CU Safe Alert said.
An all clear was given at 11:11 a.m.
The building is home to the university's shipping and receiving services and sits on Fort Hill Street to the east of Memorial Stadium.
The mail room team there found a package that seemed suspicious and had powder coming out of it, Joe Galbraith, Clemson's associate vice president for strategic communications said.
The building was evacuated as a precaution while the substance was tested and the shipper was contacted, Galbraith said.
The package was legitimate and simply mislabeled, and the powder was not dangerous, Galbraith said.

SARASOTA (WWSB) - Four explosions early Sunday morning caused many ABC7 viewers to reach out to us for more information.
A homeowner in Palmetto, said he found a PVC pipe in the swampy mangroves behind his house.
When he cut it open, he found that it was a 7 foot, 4 inch PVC pipe filled with explosives.
‰??This is such an unusual case,‰?? said Mike Blozki, Captain of the Southern Manatee Fire Rescue‰??s Hazmat Team.
‰??This is like a once in a lifetime kind of thing in Manatee County and it kind of throws responders for a loop," said Captain Blozki. "Especially when we estimate, you‰??re dealing with 38 pounds of a true blasting agent that‰??s been rediscovered after 40-45 years behind, somewhere.‰??

AFTER A RECENT CHEMICAL SPILL AT THE LAFAYETTE UTILITIES, UL OFFICIALS CALL FOR CAUTION

A minor chemical spill at the Lafayette Utilities System North Water Plant last week led to an evacuation order, an investigation and 14 people seeking medical treatment, according to multiple reports.
Hydrated lime was released as a cloud or fine dust from the plant, polluting the air in the area and covering surrounding buildings. The spill prompted officials at the plant, Lafayette Fire Department, Lafayette Police Department and Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality to evacuate the surrounding area. The evacuation order was lifted on Feb. 4.
Associate professor of chemistry Eric Taylor, Ph.D., warned of the potential dangers of breathing the substance.
‰??It‰??s not what you call a particularly serious dangerous chemical, but it‰??s not something you‰??d want to play with either,‰?? Taylor said. ‰??It‰??s an irritant. It‰??s a caustic material, so you don‰??t want to breathe it in or put it on your skin because it would damage your skin and injure you‰?|.LUS did get people out of the area rather quickly, which is to their credit. You don‰??t want them to be there to be injured by it, and you don‰??t want people in the way while they are trying to clean it up.‰??

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. ‰?? Reynolds American Inc. says a HAZMAT was called to its Winston-Salem facility after a "minor explosion" in a lab Tuesday morning.
The company says one person was taken to the hospital out of precaution. No injuries have been reported.
Reynolds released the following statement:
‰??We had an incident in an on-site contractor‰??s lab where a chemical interaction caused a minor explosion. All persons in the lab were evaluated and one person was transported to the hospital out of precaution. No injuries have been reported. The incident did not cause property damage and will not disrupt our business activities at the location.

CHEMISTRY LAB ACCIDENT INJURES FOUR LS STUDENTS

FOUR Loyola Schools (LS) students were injured after an accident involving a distillation experiment occurred at 10:48 AM earlier today during a CH 22.2: Survey of Organic Chemistry laboratory class at SEC-C 207.
Among the victims of the accident, three sustained minor injuries while one was severely injured and was transferred from the LS Health Services Clinic to a hospital.
In an interview with The GUIDON, Ace*, a student who witnessed the incident in her class, said that one of her classmates‰?? experimental set-up exploded as he was boiling a solution of unpurified isopropanol.
Ace said that the glass shards that flew out of the explosion severely injured the student and gave two others minor scratches and abrasions. Meanwhile, one shard of glass was embedded in a fourth student‰??s cheek.
‰??[The sample provided to the students] had a mixture of the solution we‰??re trying to find and the dye, and we‰??re supposed to obtain the purest form of it. So that‰??s why we needed to heat it a couple of times,‰?? Ace explained.
According to Ace, ‰??[the explosion] could be [due to] the possibility of a strong flame, the lack of boiling chips which could cause the unstable heating, or heating to dryness which could cause pressure too high for the apparatus to handle.‰??

MASSIVE RESPONSE AFTER RANCHO BERNARDO CREEK TURNS PURPLE

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Connie Bakken opened her bedroom window Sunday morning and didn't quite believe her eyes.
"I called my husband and said, 'Why is the stream purple?" she says.
Bakken lives in a Rancho Bernardo home that overlooks a creek just west of Matinal Circle. What she saw - the creek where she loves to watch turtles and crabs live naturally turn into a deep, unnatural purple.
"It didn't look like water," Bakken says. "It actually looked like purple paint."
Turns out - it very well may have been.
About half-a-mile southeast on Poblado Court, a person is suspected of dumping a purple paint-like substance down a storm drain. The purple water it created led to a massive city response - Hazmat, Fish and Game, and San Diego Fire-Rescue - all on scene for hours Sunday.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Lottery numbers were delayed more than two hours Monday night because of a hazmat situation.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel descended on the North Carolina Lottery headquarters on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh.
They received a call about a hazmat situation happening inside the building. When they arrived they determined the culprit was some drums filled with chemicals that were letting off gas.
Officials have not said why type of chemicals were in the drums or if the gas ever posed any significant threat.
Firefighters on the scene checked air quality in the building before clearing the scene.

A 54-year-old South Lyon man died Saturday after falling into a chemical vat at Michigan Seamless Tube.
Daniel Hill was found by a co-worker at about 12:20 p.m., fully submerged in sulfuric acid, said South Lyon Fire Chief Robert Vogel.
It was unclear how long Hill was in the vat, in which chemicals were heated to temperatures of 160 degrees.
South Lyon Police Chief Chris Sovik said employees grabbed the man from the vat and took him to a decontamination area as Huron Valley Ambulance medics and South Lyon Fire and Police responded.
Hill was rushed to the University of Michigan Hospital, where he died from his injuries on Saturday night.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 ‰?? A chemical leakage was detected outside a factory in Kampung Sungai Lalang, near Semenyih last night.
Semenyih fire and rescue station head Zainal Elias Abdul Aziz said eight fire officers and personnel, including from the Hazardous Material (Hazmat) unit, rushed to the scene after receiving a call at about 10pm.
‰??When we arrived at the scene, there were about 50 tanks, believed to contain Ethylene Chloride, outside a factory that is located in an open area.
‰??Following inspection, there were leakage in 10 of the tanks, causing the chemical to spill. However, there was no report of a casualty,‰?? he said when contacted by Bernama.
