High Point Fire Department leaders say a chemical spill at a plant in High Point has been cleaned up and there is no threat to workers or the public at this time.
Assistant Fire Church Mike Levins with the High Point Fire Department says the department received a call about a bulging chemical drum at the Thomas Built Buses plant on West Fairfield Road around 7:30 p.m.
He says a 55-gallon drum with a chemical inside had another element added to it for an unknown reason and caused the drum to expand. The chemical that leaked out of the 55-gallon drum has been identified by the hazmat team but fire department leaders have not shared which chemical it was.
The 55-gallon drum was placed inside of an "overpack drum" and the chemicals that leaked out have since been cleaned up.
The plant was evacuated and no injures were reported.

The EU food safety system, part of EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) was created to protect human life and health against three hazards in food: physical, biological and chemical.
'Increasing demands'
But in a report by the European Court of Auditors‰?? (ECA) this month, it claims the European Union‰??s food safety system is ‰??overstretched‰?? and its ‰??legal corpus‰?? governing chemicals in relation to food safety is extensive and fragmented.
Auditors emphasised EFSA is not capable of delivering on increasing demands, leading to delays.
Chemical hazards are substances which can potentially cause adverse health effects that either occur naturally or are added during food production or handling.
ECA says the EU has adopted numerous pieces of legislation including directives, regulations, decisions and agreements for each specific food area (food additives, flavourings, feed additives, pesticides) and overall this relates to about 8,000 chemical substances.

Five people working at a Pennsylvania energy plant less than two miles from Claymont were hospitalized after a chemical leak occurred Wednesday morning.
The contract workers' conditions were not available Wednesday, but they were being treated at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania.
Hydrofluoric acid is hydrogen fluoride when dissolved in water, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The chemical, even at low levels, can irritate the eyes, nose and respiratory tract. Breathing in the chemical at high levels or in combination with skin contact can cause death from an irregular heartbeat or from fluid buildup in the lungs.

Hazmat crews were called just before 10 a.m. Wednesday to the Monroe Energy refinery, located in the 4100 block of Post Road in Trainer, Pennsylvania.
According to Monroe officials, a hose malfunctioned, during which time hydrocarbon vapors containing a small amount of hydrofluoric acid were emitted near a group of contract workers.
The contract workers were evaluated and treated for possible exposure before being taken to Crozer for further evaluation and monitoring.

A Fort Worth nail salon was evacuated Wednesday afternoon due to a carbon monoxide leak, the Fort Worth fire department said.
EMS crews responded to a medical call at about 4 p.m. at Venus Nail Spa located at 4801 Overton Ridge Blvd near Hulen Mall.
The person had passed out and was taken to the hospital, MedStar said.
EMS crews noticed an elevated reading on their carbon monoxide detectors while treating the patient. Crews immediately started to evacuate the nail salon and a HAZMAT team was called, the Fort Worth fire department said.
