Biological and chemical tests taken at the scene of a Dec. 14 raid at a Niagara Falls residence where 21 police officers and federal agents got sick did not find a cause, authorities said in a joint statement released Thursday morning.
"All collected materials have been tested, both biological and chemical, with negative results," according to the statement from the FBI Buffalo office and Niagara County Sheriff's Office.
Thirty-nine members of local and federal law enforcement conducted a raid at 4 Packard Court. Authorities arrested 28-year-old Jeffrey Richards, after finding cocaine, heroin, marijuana, 10 guns, ammunition and an improvised explosive device, according to authorities.
In the days that followed, 21 people who were at the scene developed a variety of "flu-like" symptoms, officials said. Eighteen others did not get sick.
On Dec. 26, the 914th Air Force Reserve and Niagara County Hazmat went into the residence to take samples for testing.
"Currently, FBI Buffalo and the Niagara County Sheriff's Office are working with the Niagara County Department of Health as it conducts an incident review as to the specific symptoms and illnesses developed after the Dec. 14, 2018, activity at Packard Court," the statement said. "If the incident review results in definitive findings we will release them to the community."

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews responded to a pepper spray incident at G. Holmes Braddock High School.
Several Fire Rescue trucks and ambulances could be seen outside the school, located at 3601 SW 147th Ave., in Southwest Miami-Dade, late Thursday morning.
According to school officials, the container was somehow accidentally sprayed during a biology class after a student reached inside her backpack.
‰??When our first unit arrived, they found there to be multiple patients complaining of symptoms of their eyes being irritated and other similar symptoms,‰?? said MDFR Lt. Kristen Miller.
The teacher and students inside the classroom were all evaluated and nobody needed to be transported to the hospital.

A bucket of chlorine outside of a Southwest Bakersfield home lead to a response from the City of Bakersfield Fire Department and BPD.
According to BPD, officers were called out to the 2800 block of Flint Hills Drive in Southwest Bakersfield around 9:45 a.m. for a possible hazmat situation. BFD says that initial reports were of a container bubbling over.
When firefighters arrived, BFD says they determined it was pool shock reacting to the rain.

Experts in academia have come out in support of a new book on endocrine disrupting chemicals criticised by industry, praising the research underpinning it.
In Sicker, fatter, poorer: The urgent threat of hormone-disrupting chemicals to our health and future ... and what we can do about it, US scientist Leonardo Trasande, an associate professor at NYU Langone Health, "exposes the chemicals that disrupt our hormonal systems and damage our health in irreparable ways", according to a statement on the publisher‰??s website.
The American Chemistry Council (ACC), however, was quick to criticise the book. In a statement issued five days before its 8 January release, the industry group attacked the research behind the work for "lacking in scientific quality".
Now, though, a number of leading scientists in the field have leaped to its defence.
"It is an exceptionally well-researched book, that provides both breadth and depth for the reader," said Laura Vandenberg, associate professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. "The citation list is an amazing collection of research that should be read by students, regulators and decision makers."

Thursday, January 17, 2019, 2:11 PM - A new bill in California hopes to phase out paper receipts due to their environmental impact as well as the little-known health concerns associated with them.
In addition to being non-recyclable, most receipts are coated with Bisphenol-A (BPA) or Bisphenol-S (BPS).
BPA, an industrial chemical used to make plastics and resins, can be found in several products, including those that are used for human consumption -- but several manufacturers have cut back or limited its use following studies that link chemical exposure to adverse health affects.

An Idaho mother says a sippy cup designed for children burned her when a battery inside it blew up.
But the company who makes the cup says it's her fault.
Dzevada Becirovic says, "Kids want stuff that lights up and has pretty colors on it and you expect them to be safe. But..."
Dzevada says it was her son's favorite cup.
Dzevada Becirovic says, "It's seriously the scariest thing to think about your child getting hurt and buying something like that. Like, you don't... You just don't expect it."
Apparently, the lithium battery inside of the cup blew up.
"Like it burned a hole all the way through."
Dzevada Becirovic says she had to go to the hospital and was treated for chemical exposure in her lungs and her face.
Dzevada Becirovic says, "If it had been in his hands, I really don't even want to imagine what would have happened. If it choked me up that bad and burned me, it could have taken a limb off of a child that little."

Three people have been injured in a massive explosion at a university building in Lyon, France. According to police, the fire began after a gas bottle exploded on top of the roof.
The university told The Associated Press that construction work was the cause and the explosion was ‰??accidental‰??. Photos and images from the scene show a fireball erupting into the sky above the building where a large fire could already be seen on the roof. Although it all looks extremely bad, authorities in the city and university insisted there were no risks of chemical leaks.
The major explosion happened at around 9 a.m. and shortly after 10 a.m., the university said the fire was ‰??under control‰?? and that some buildings had been re-opened. However, students were asked to stay 100 meters away from the burnt building.

A grandfather and two children were taken to hospital following a carbon monoxide leak at a home in Vancouver's Killarney neighbourhood.
Nine people had to evacuate a house near Tyne Street and 47th Avenue Tuesday night, and a hazmat team was called in to ventilate the building.
Firefighters told CTV News they were alerted to the danger inside the home by the CO monitors paramedics wear when responding to calls.

CANFIELD, Ohio -
A section of gas pumps were closed and a hazmat team dispatched following a gas leak at the Sheetz on State Route 224 in Canfield on Wednesday.
Matt Rarick, deputy chief of the Canfield Fire Department, tells 21 News, the incident began when a vehicle slid into a section of gas pumps at around 4 am because of the icy conditions.
The leak itself didn't start until around 9 am when a valve failed while crews were repairing the pump.
Rarick said the gas flowed to a nearby creek, but crews assisted by a hazmat team were able to stop the flow of the gas approximately 100 yards into the creek.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Bed bug bombs triggered a hazmat investigation in Spokane Valley Wednesday.
Fire crews reposed to a smoke alarm near the 6100 block of 6th Avenue in Spokane Valley Wednesday afternoon.
According to the fire department, a resident of a nearby apartment set off three bed bug bombs and didn't notify the fire department or unplug the smoke detectors, which triggered a hazardous materials investigation.
Three Spokane Valley firefighters were hospitalized after being exposed to what was initially called a mysterious odor.
KHQ's Peter Maxwell spoke to the resident of the apartment who wished the firefighters a speedy recovery, but declined an on-camera interview.

Huge fireball explosions reached hundreds of metres into the skies over Michel Camp during the wee hours of Wednesday after the weapon cache caught fire.
Residents say the explosions were at the Base Ammunition Depot of the Ghana Armed Forces and multiple blasts could be heard for over an hour.
Most of the residents, who were fast asleep, had to run for their lives moments after the explosions at midnight amidst power outage.
‰??Residents in the bordering communities have to evacuate to safer grounds. People were heading towards Aflao, Tema, Afienya and Apollonia.
‰??The explosion occurred at a laboratory where small arms are kept and the Fire Service managed to prevent it from spreading to where the highly explosive weapons are kept,‰?? a journalist, Moses Dautey, told Starrfmonline.com.

Four people were hospitalized with cuts and other injuries after a powerful explosion ripped through a chemical factory in the northwestern Russian city of Kingisepp.
The blast destroyed a two-story building at the Polyplast plant in the city, 140 kilometers southwest of St. Petersburg, Leningrad Oblast Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko said.
Drozdenko said the explosion was most likely set off by sparks flying from a grinder operating near a barrel containing the flammable chemical compound saltpeter.
Rescue teams, police, local authorities, and environmental hazard teams rushed to the site, and the explosion was under investigation.

Ambiguous requirements for exposure scenarios in safety data sheets and lack of harmonised methods to adjust them to the needs of all users, are to blame for poor safety communication along chemical supply chains, Echa has said.
Exposure scenarios circulated through extended safety data sheets (eSDS) under REACH aim to ensure safe handling and adequate control of risks through the whole lifecycle of substances, not just those related to direct customers of the supplier.
But addressing the needs of all recipients in the supply chain and securing efficient information flow through a complex market has been challenging, Echa said in a report submitted to the meeting of the Competent Authorities for REACH and CLP (Caracal) in November.

The question arose in the wake of Monday‰??s evacuation of the Ì?cole des DÌ©couvreurs school in LaSalle, after dozens of staff and students fell ill.
A total of 35 children and eight adults were rushed to emergency rooms when the corridors of the elementary school filled with more than five times the acceptable level of carbon monoxide. Nine children had fainted, while others felt dizzy or nauseous.
Another seven children were taken to the Montreal Children‰??s Hospital overnight.
