ORLANDO, FL ‰?? Dozens of workers were evacuated from a baking company Sunday morning due to a carbon monoxide alarm and at least one person was taken away from the building with chest pains. A Hazardous materials team has been sent to Turano Florida Bun on the 100 block of Martin Brower Road, Orange County Fire Rescue told Patch.

Forty people were forced to leave the address. Further details weren't immediately available.

According to the business's website, the bakery makes artisan breads including ciabatta and focaccia, as well as a variety of rolls. The breads are delivered every day throughout the Chicago area and the country.

Turano did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment. No one at the company answered the phone Sunday afternoon.

Almost a million drivers on Australian roads are at a huge safety risk due to dodgy airbags that have been described as ‰??ticking time bombs‰??.

Even in the most minor of fender benders, these cheap airbags can explode without warning, sending shards of metal at 300km/h into unsuspecting drivers and passengers, resulting in horrific injuries and even death.

The airbags, produced by a major automotive parts company called Takata, contain the volatile and unstable ‰?? yet cheap ‰?? chemical, ammonium nitrate. It is in no other airbags.

TOWN OF ONONDAGA, N.Y. ‰?? Authorities say chemical supplies contributed to a fire and explosion that engulfed a home in the Town of Onondaga earlier this week.
Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies say contractors had chemical supplies on the front porch where the flames and blast started. It broke out around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning on Holmes Road near Amber Road.
Deputies say the fire appears to be an accident, sparked by spontaneous combustion. "It happens when a combustible material is heated to its ignition temperature by a chemical reaction involving the oxygen in the air around the material.," Sgt. Jon Seeber told CNYCentral. "This heating process is known as self-heating."

STOCKTON ‰?? One man suffered major burns to his body when a honey oil lab caused an explosion at a home in the Weston Ranch neighborhood, authorities reported.

The Stockton Fire Department received multiple calls about a garage fire shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 2300 block of Stern Place.

Firefighters arrived to the home and noticed there was heavy fire coming from the garage and smoke flowing out from the front door, which was wide open, said Stockton Fire Department spokesman Jeff Whitlock.

One man, who was not identified, was taken to UC Davis Medical Center to be treated for burns, according to officials.

Studies show that firefighters are more likely than civilians to be diagnosed with cancer, but various local organizations are teaming up in hopes of reducing that risk.

LUMBERTON ‰?? Firefighters‰?? health and safety risks are myriad, and cancer is one that doesn‰??t go away when the battle with a blaze is won.

After the fire is out, firefighters can take steps to mitigate the potential harm of carcinogens found in soot and smoke ‰?? and various local organizations are teaming up to encourage them to follow through.

Studies by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health show that firefighters are 9 percent more likely than civilians to be diagnosed with cancer, and 14 percent more likely to die from the illness, according to a news release by the Burlington County Fire Chiefs‰?? Association.

‰??Firefighters are exposed to a variety of potential chemical carcinogens at the scene of a fire and its aftermath,‰?? said pulmonologist Navdeep Brar, of Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Pemberton Township.

SENECA, S.C. (FOX CAROLINA) Oconee County school district officials said there was an explosion in a Seneca high science lab Friday.

Officials said a chemical reaction caused a beaker to burst.

The reaction set off a fire alarm, alerting the fire department. Officials said one student did cut their hand on broken glass and was being treated by a doctor.

Afterward, a teacher and AP were cleaning up a science lab when a reaction to water caused a small fire to start. The fire was quickly extinguished using a fire extinguisher.

No students were in the classroom during the event.

The room will be cleaned over the weekend and ready to use by Monday, said officials.

CHEVRON REACHES $160 MILLION SETTLEMENT OVER REFINERY ACCIDENTS•ČŔ

Chevron and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Mississippi Department of the Environment announced on Oct. 25 a settlement worth more than $160 million to resolve claims that the company violated provisions of the Clean Air Act.

The violations center on the act‰??s risk management plan provisions, which are triggered by accidental releases of hazardous chemicals with serious consequences for human health and the environment.

The accidental releases occurred at Chevron refineries in Richmond, Calif.; Pascagoula, Miss.; and El Segundo, Calif., in 2012 and 2013. Combined, the incidents caused the death of one worker, endangered 19 others, and induced 15,000 residents to seek medical aid.

The agreement calls for Chevron to spend $150 million to replace piping, institute new operating parameters and alarms for safer operations, improve piping inspections, and improve inspection training.

At the Richmond refinery, failure to replace a long-ignored corroded pipe led to a fire and community evacuation in 2012, according to an investigation by the U.S. Chemical Safety Board. The accident and CSB investigation led to an overhaul of California refinery regulations.

Chevron will also conduct a pilot study of safety controls and make safety improvements at all its U.S. refineries. The company will pay a $3 million civil penalty and implement supplemental environmental projects worth more than $10 million for fire and emergency response equipment in communities near Chevron refineries in California, Mississippi, and Utah, as well as a refinery formerly owned by Chevron in Hawaii.
