From: Chemistry Executive Officer Colleagues, A 2017 NSF report (Women, Minorities and Persons with Disabilities in Science and Engineering) reports that 6% of the US population ages 18-34 is estimated to have a disability, and that in 2012 about 11% of the undergraduate population reported a disability. Nearly 25% of these students enroll in a science or engineering field. Do you feel knowledgeable about including students with physical disabilities requiring mobility, visual or hearing accommodations in the laboratory setting? Saturday, October 27 the New York Section of the ACS is sponsoring a day-long symposium on methods for adapting laboratory experiences for students with disabilities, directed toward high school and college science faculty, graduate teaching assistants, and disability service administrators. The program is co-sponsored by the national ACS Committee on Chemists with Disabilities and the CUNY Graduate Center, and will be livestreamed on Facebook Live.
