It's the same story that many of us have heard before:  An old bottle of ethyl ether, tetrahydrofuran, or ______ (fill in the blank with your favorite peroxide-former) needs to be discarded.  For the purpose of this inquiry, assume the bottle has already been safely opened (i.e., cap removed).

1) Does anyone have a written procedure for testing for peroxides that they would be willing to share?

2) If peroxides are detected, what is your procedure for neutralizing/stabilizing/diluting the peroxides and rendering the liquid suitable for 'traditional' disposal routes (e.g., lab pack, bulking with UN1993 Flammable Liquids, n.o.s., etc.)

Thanks,

SJM
