Hi Paul!
First, you need to be aware of the CONTEXT of this VE suggestion. Would the VE option mean no acids could be thrown down any other than the five designated drains?
Do you know how many total drains there are and can the use of these drains be predicted reliably at this time? Is the originally designed piping for acid waste a dedicated drain system or does the design use one drain system to handle all liquid waste?
The
under counter acid neutralization “tanks” mentioned are very small and need frequent “refills” of (usually) crushed lime. If the traps are located under fume hoods, they are usually difficult to get to.
Also see if the acid waste piping quoted was Pyrex glass. Years ago this was the only option and it
was expensive. There are other options available now.
