Dear All, Although I am retired, my former colleagues have turned to me for advice and help, therefore I turn to the collective wisdom of the group.
The campus has been informed that the entity of jurisdiction has adopted the IFC and the campus now has to comply. Campus officials have provided little help in that we can't learn which IFC Year has been adopted, nor can they help with other information about the criteria used to determine or identify a Control Area, or how to manage a compound that falls into two categories.
The only thing we can glean from them is that a Control Area must have Fire Rated Doors that open into a corridor or to the outside.
Questions:
- Is this the only criteria used to identify a Control Area? The number of interconnecting labs, and total square footage are irrelevant considerations?
- Can the replacement of and installation of Fire Rated Doors between interconnecting labs be considered is viable method to create more Control Areas?
- Is the configuration of the HVAC - Chemical Fume Hood - Exhaust Systems relevant to the identification of Control Areas?
Any responses to the list or directly to me will be passed onto my former departmental colleagues. Thanking you in Advance.
