A great point indeed. One person never has all the answers. Part of my job is knowing and contacting outside expertise within our campus, such as the Chemistry department, and beyond. Thankfully, we have a
great team of individuals who have volunteered their time to consult when necessary. One of our most significant assets has been the willingness of "retired" individuals and emeritus professors to help.

I think we have begun to turn the corner because we have some people in place in the engineering spaces who have either a good deal of industrial experience, or some significant time working on collaborative projects with chemists.
This is a very good point - It made me realize that I should not think only of collaborations as causing problems where safety is concerned, they can also be beneficial for the group as a whole. Collaboration between experts in various
areas can create a broader safety system for the lab.
