Thank you for responses. Jim Kaufman reminded me that the “Eye and Face Protection in Chemical Laboratories” by Edward Peil Productions has a good Dewar flask implosion in slow motion. It even shows one imploding without incident when it is wrapped with electrical tape.

But I still want to know if anyone has established policies for length of time these are in service?  Do you take them out of service after so many years of use?

Thank you,

Christina

We've got some links to books and other web resources on cryogen safety at http://www.ilpi.com/msds/ref/cryogen.html

Metal-cased dewars reduce some of the risk associated with traditional Dewars and are available from many vendors including my own company: http://www.safetyemporium.com/25000

Does anyone have a good reference for the safety of Dewar flasks?

Has anyone set limits on how long a Dewar flask may be in service before it must be replaced? What are those limits? What are they based upon?

Does anyone have a good video of a Dewar flask implosion?

Thanks,

Christina
