This country is in such trouble. I wrote a book about essentially the same thing in 2010. The European Union's REACH has been trying to address this issue since 1999, and our government wants to silence an NIH scientist for bringing up the issue in 2017? Oy.
And this is not just a problem with this administration. During the Obama administration, OSHA adopted the GHS (after we had no choice) but did not make mandatory the SDS requirement to report those toxicology tests that have NOT been done on each chemical. That's the only way workers and consumers will begin to see the magnitude of this problem.
The dirty little secret is most of the chemicals we use have never been studied for any chronic hazards and some of the newer ones don't have acute data either. And REACH found out that included most of the 30,000 high production volume chemicals as well.
We need to hope REACH will continue on the path it is still taking which is to restrict the use of toxic and untested products sold in the EU. And hope to hell the loss of business will stimulate industry to test their chemicals. But I predict that as soon as you-know-who is made aware of this issue, he will do exactly what the Obama administration was trying to do through the TTIP treaty, and that is to force the EU to accept products that meet "our standards" for toxicity which are no standards at all.

REPUBLICANS ON THE House Science Committee are accusing Linda Birnbaum, director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, of lobbying....Birnbaum's editorial, which the journal PLOS Biology published in December, addressed the gaps in the regulation of toxic chemicals....
