Hi Monique,

We had one fail last year on a hood that was about 20 years old. It was a mess because the access to the counterweights was against a wall so our service provider had a tricky time getting it fixed. There was also a delay in getting the part from LabConco because of the age of the hood. In the end, LabConco sent the wrong part and our technician somehow fished out the counterweights and get everything back together, thankfully. I think a student closed the sash extra hard and the cable came undone (can check my notes tomorrow, at home right now for a snow day :) ).

We don't have a procedure or really inspect the mechanism. Based on this experience, it would be a little time intensive and I'm not sure all mechanisms would be accessible.

I would be interested to hear others experiences as well.
