From: Jim Grieger Provide professional assistance in managing university wide chemical hygiene lab safety program. Develops strategies to build a positive safety culture & lab safety program. Performs other duties as assigned. JOB DUTIES: 30% - Essential - Chemical Hygiene Management: Serves as the Clemson University Chemical Hygiene Officer. Keeps current to regulatory changes, new standards and hot topics in lab safety. Assists lab in achieving compliance and safe lab operations. Provides guidance on lab safety. Reviews Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and lab practices. Conducts lab inspections. 25% - Essential - Outreach - Provides training, technical assistance and resources to the research and teaching community to enhance safety and compliance in research laboratories. Develops training programs for both on line and live training. 20% - Essential - Communication: Develops positive relationships with lab staff and safety committees, Department Safety Coordinators, Department Chairs, and other unit management. Communicate information to promote a positive safety culture and collaboration to improve lab safety. 15% - Essential - Program Development: Works with facilities services to develop design and construction standards for laboratory safety requirements for Clemson. Reviews plans & designs for both new construction & renovation for lab safety and health requirements. Assists in new lab start-ups, orientations and lab closeouts. 10% - Essential - Equipment Assistance- Assists in laboratory ventilation issues, including fume hood selection, testing commissioning or decommissioning. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health. A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: B.S. Degree in chemistry, biology, industrial hygiene, environmental health, safety or other related discipline. 5-7 years laboratory safety experience with 3-5 years as either a Chemical Hygiene Officer or Assistant Chemical Hygiene Officer in an academic or R&D organization.
