We are working with an organization in Doha, Qatar to provide a lab safety management team for both academic and research laboratories. This is a two to three year assignment and could start in 2-3 months.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right persons. We need expertise in a the major lab hazard areas.

I need to submit the resumes of interested candidate for the four support positions by May 18th at 5PM. Please help spread the word and ask interested people to send me their resumes ASAP.

In order to carry out the above, the laboratory safety specialist service provider will provide the following at the site:

a. A Technical Lab Safety Specialist who will lead on safety in design, design review for safety, technical troubleshooting, safety systems improvement, safety incident investigation, review of near misses and lessons learnt, laboratory audits and reviews, technical studies to improve and re-design/ reconfigure safety systems or components. The technical requirements include clean room safety and certification, radiation safety, laser safety, biological safety (see Appendix C for a list of facilities at start-up).

b. A Laboratory Health Safety Specialist to lead in developing a Laboratory Safety Manual (LSM, see Appendix E) for each laboratory or research function at the facility, in collaboration with the researchers and the lab safety manager for each lab. He will oversee and audit the implementation of the plan in each lab.

c. A Laboratory Chemicals Safety Specialist to assist his colleagues in developing the LSM for each laboratory at the facility, to oversee and audit the implementation of the plan per laboratory. The Laboratory chemicals safety specialist will establish safe chemical quantity storage volumes for each lab, including safe storage requirements for consumables of all types, based on the building safety codes and the research requirements and needs of each lab. The specialist will oversee the proper utilization of chemical and biological materials, ventilation systems and laboratory equipment.

d. An Environmental Safety Specialist will oversee environmental safety at the facility overall and also specific to each laboratory. This includes hazardous materials handling and disposal, waste disposal, exhaust systems, disposal off-site of hazardous materials.

e. The Laboratory Safety Manager will supervise the work and deliverables of his charges and lead in the overall safety training program to be implemented across the facility. The safety training program will be comprehensive, cross-disciplined, and continuous. Training courses (see Appendix D) relevant to safe laboratory and research operations will be offered to all staff and researchers.

Thanks - Jim
