Sheila,
If all else fails, look at the manual/plate on the apparatus and search for patent numbers. Then pull the patent off the USTPO site.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] information, please: Fisher-Johns melting point apparatus
Patient friends,
I do understand this isn’t a forum for lab equipment questions, but I’m running out of places to look and you’re all so helpful when you have a chance.
I want to republish a line drawing of a Fisher-Johns melting point apparatus, but I’m having trouble finding the owner to give me permission. I’ve seen it reprinted many times, including in Zubrick’s Organic Chem Lab Survival Manual, but he says it’s not his.
If you have a clue about this old reliable (still works!), please let me know. If this drawing appears in the instrument manual, I’ll at least know who to talk to.
Sheila
