Preliminary Learning Goals:
1) Identify PubChem Compound as a source of info for Lab chemical safety data
2) Understand the source, relevance and content of PubChem's Laboratory Chemical Safety Summary (LCSS) information
3) Learn how this information is helpful for development/implementation of Laboratory Safety Prudent Practices
‰??PubChem: A source of laboratory chemical safety information‰??
Recently there has been an increase in the number of accidents in research laboratories, so chemical safety, information and education professionals have been collaborating to facilitate and improve the risk assessment process for chemistry researchers and research students. An addition to the PubChem database, the Laboratory Chemical Safety Summary (LCSS), aims to provide easily accessible, helpful information for directors and instructors of research and teaching laboratories to assist in the development and implementation of safe laboratory practices. The LCSS contains pertinent chemical hazard and safety information, such as flammability, toxicity, exposure limits, exposure symptoms, first aid, handling, and clean up.
