I'm glad to note that the new publication from the National Academy Press publication on Fostering Integrity in Research does include environmental health and safety issues in its purview. Unlike last spring's APLU safety culture report, the discussion is framed in terms of compliance rather than academic values and occupational safety is mixed with product safety and patient safety considerations. However, the report does note:
"Current patterns of U.S. research funding and organization are contributing to research environments with characteristics that behavioral and social sciences research suggests facilitate and encourage detrimental behavior in science, with some evidence of negative effects."
which is similar to points made by the APLU report and the National Academy's "Safe Science" report of 2014.
