Come to Yale on June 13th to hear leading researchers discuss the latest safety issues of work with high risk and emerging biohazards at the Yale-Harvard Biosafety Symposium. Speakers will address the treatment of defective Lentivirus exposures, protocols for Zika Virus in mosquitoes, intravital imaging of animals infected with high risk pathogens, and Boston University’s soon-to-be-opened National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory (BSL-4). Don’t miss:

 

·       Dr. Thomas Winters (Harvard Medical School), a co-author of the recent publication on providing HIV post-exposure prophylaxis for exposures to defective Lentiviral vectors. He will provide an overview of the paper's rationale and recommendations.

·       Dr. Patrick Condreay (Biosafety Consulting Services, LLC) will present an overview of lentiviral vectors, while Dr. Peter Shank (Brown University) will lead an advanced risk discussion of work with lentiviral vectors.

·       Dr. James Schmitt (National Institutes of Health), the author of NIH’s Retrovirus Exposure Response Protocol, will explain the matrix NIH uses for HIV post-exposure prophylaxis for defective Lentivirus exposures. 

·       Representatives from Boston University (Drs. Ronald Corley and Elke Muhlberger) and the City of Boston (Julien Farland) will explain the research goals, operation and oversight of the new National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory (BSL 4).

·       Drs. Pradeep Uchil and Walther Mothes (Yale University) will explain procedures for high risk microscopy and the development of an Animal BSL-3 protocol for intravital imaging of animals infected with high risk pathogens. 

·       Drs. Brett Lindenbach and Andrew K. Hastings (Yale University) will share biosafety issues when working with positive strand RNA viruses (e.g., Zika).

 

This one day symposium is sponsored by the Institutional Biosafety Committees from Yale and Harvard Universities to promote the understanding and discussion of the most challenging topics for IBCs, biosafety professionals, Principal Investigators and research institutions. This event will be held at Yale’s West Campus.
