Colleagues,
You may be interested in attending this symposium and training opportunity. The Institutional Biosafety Committees from Yale and Harvard Universities are partnering
again to create an opportunity for education and discussion on more challenging topics for IBCs, biosafety professionals, Principal Investigators and research institutions. This event will be held at Yale’s West Campus..
The main Symposium will occur on
Tuesday, June 13th. It will feature a morning session dedicated to the topic of providing HIV post-exposure prophylaxis for exposures to defective Lentiviral vectors. Dr. Thomas Winters (Harvard Medical School), one of the authors of the recent
publication on this topic will provide an overview of the paper's rationale and recommendations. There will also be a basic presentation on lentiviral vectors by Dr. Patrick Condreay (retired Galaxo SmithKline) and an advanced risk discussion on Lentiviral
vectors by Dr. Peter Shank (Brown University). The final morning speaker will be either Dr. James Shmitt or Dr. Heiki Bailin, the authors of the NIH Retrovirus Exposure Response Protocol, who developed their matrix to use HIV post-exposure prophylaxis for
defective Lentivirus exposure events.
The afternoon session will feature paired presentations combining a scientific and safety discussion on emerging or high risk topics from regional institutions. Three
presentations on the Boston University BSL-4 Facility (New England Infectious Diseases Laboratory) will be provided; Harvard University will share their development of their Zika Virus in mosquitoes protocol that required a request for amended biocontainment
from the CDC; and Yale University will present on the development of an Animal BSL3 protocol for intravital imaging of animals infected with high risk pathogens.
On
Monday, June 12th we will offer professional development courses on viral vectors and cell sorting biosafety. The Mid-Atlantic Biological Safety Association (MABSA) is a joint sponsor of the June 12-13 events. See
https://www.harvardyalesymposium.com/
for more information.
Also note that, on
Wednesday, June 14th the Connecticut Biosafety Alliance will offer a day of basic biosafety training at the same location.
Please join us for an exciting Symposium and wonderful educational opportunities at Yale's West Campus. Detailed speaker, schedule, registration, travel and
hotel information will be coming soon.
