Et al,Bottom line, folks, striped-pants or whatever you wear liberals lost (as did our country for the past 8 years) in the legally-conducted election according to the way our Founding Fathers designed things. Street protests and violence are never the answer. Of course, contact your elected representatives and express your opinions (and don't hold your breath, hypoxemia and hypoxia are not good things), but wait and see never hurts, either. The opposit of Murphy's Law, Yhprum's Law, is that, sometimes, things go right. And Monona, if Texas ever decided to enact its option as the only State that ever joined the US voluntarily and does have the right to secede ever does so (John Steinbeck once formed a group to promote this), while I have no clout whatsoever in TX government, I'd ratify your visa application. Everybody needs gadfies, no matter what their opinion. And, yes,I did go to the CSB meeting on the West,TX disaster. I was a volunteer firefighter just once upon a time, and we lost brothers and civilians there. Dumb can't necessarily be fixed and stupid never can be. And letting anybody sue anybody for nothing whatsoever isn't a good idea, either. Ddifference of opinion. Right of free speech. The Alien and Sedition Act is long gone. As the person siad: "I don't agree with what you say, but I will defend to my death the right for you to say it."AlanAlan H. Hall, M.D.Medical ToxicologistFormerly,SP4, US ArmyMajor, USAFR (Hon. It begins with EPA funds and contracts, I will suggest that the same will happen with the Depart. of Energy, etc. I expect funding will dry up for NIH, NSF and other agency grants as well. Furthermore, I think the "gag order" will be applied across most federal agencies. Perhaps, only the Department of Defense will come out of this with only a little pain.If we do not speak out now for science and our brothers and sisters in federal governmental agency positions, ask yourselves who will speak out for us when we are similarly restrained.Dr. Larry Tirri

I used to teach my medical students: "Don't just do something, stand there." The situation somestimes evolves out of what seems to be chaos (Chaos Theory for those who follow it). Sometimes, the best medicine is to do as much nothing as possible. As a community, we vote in high %. Let's be active, speak up, support science, and let legislators know that we vote as much as any group.

And so it begins. The first one is disturbing because this is right up there with the climate change gag order we have previously seen in Florida-

I don't care who the president or administration is - this isn=E2=80™t about them or who you voted for or against. It's about science and its role in setting government policy. We need to do what we can as a community to educate the public on the critical contributions of agencies like EPA, OSHA (that one should be even more fun-) etc. and that these need to be based on science, not a special interest agenda.
