Summary of Position

Under general direction, provide technical and advisory services for the management of hazardous waste to all campus research, instruction and administrative operations, including monitoring compliance with applicable regulatory agency requirements and University policies and procedures.

Ability to respond promptly in-person to all campus locations requiring environmental health and safety services. 5. Ability to wear and use appropriate protective equipment as necessary. 6. Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of program. 7. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, nationally recognized standards and guidelines related to specialized environmental health and safety functions, as required by position. 8. Professional certification in technical discipline, or ability to obtain such certification, if required by position.

Duty/Responsibility
Manages databases of regulated waste generation, including chemical, universal and biohazardous wastes. Maintains electronic records of hazardous and universal waste training and periodic refresher training requirements for faculty, staff and students who generate hazardous chemical and universal wastes.

Duty/Responsibility
Prepares and presents effective employee training on the management of hazardous and universal wastes, including waste identification, reduction and environmental compliance concerns. Implements the training program for all satellite accumulation area personnel and students. Uses the UNH CEMS system or a department approved alternative whenever possible for training and record-keeping purposes.

Duty/Responsibility
Coordinates, prioritizes and schedules activities related to the collection, processing, storage, transportation and disposal of university generated regulated wastes. Maintains the central hazardous waste accumulation facility. Procures approvals for ultimate disposal of waste materials at treatment, storage, disposal and recycling facilities. Makes final hazardous waste determinations for materials removed from laboratories and other waste generation sites.

Duty/Responsibility
Develops, revises and implements hazardous material management documents such as hazardous and universal waste management plans, hazardous waste contingency plans, hazardous waste minimization plans and spill response plans, etc. Develops and implements best management practices for satellite hazardous waste accumulation areas. Reviews safety plans and interacts with Office of Environmental Health and Safety staff regarding safety issues in university facilities.

Duty/Responsibility
Performs inspections of central and satellite hazardous waste accumulation areas. Assures compliance with appropriate waste management requirements and provides inspection reports to responsible faculty/staff members as needed. Documents inspections and maintains inspection records. Coordinates and supports third party audits of university hazardous waste management activities.

Duty/Responsibility
Coordinates response to chemical hazardous material incidents at university facilities, directing appropriate resources of staff, equipment and expertise to properly and safely mitigate hazards and address any emergencies.

Duty/Responsibility
Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships with members of the department, university community and other institutions. Advises faculty, staff and students regarding proper waste management techniques and provides recommendations for appropriate action upon request.

Duty/Responsibility
Supervises work study students, student interns and hourly employees as required. Maintains appropriate professional certifications with the State of New Hampshire.

Duty/Responsibility
Prepares hazardous waste manifests and various reports in accordance with regulatory agency requirements. Produces and maintains appropriate documentation and record-keeping to meet environmental regulations. Stays current with environmental laws and regulatory issues.
