Summary of Position
The EHS Coordinator position will perform a combination of laboratory safety and environmental compliance, as well as providing assistance to the EHS Manager with campus wide regulatory requirements and best management practices. This position will assist in the development and implementation of EHS policies and procedures and complete required inspections and recordkeeping for the EHS Office. The EHS Coordinator will support compliance regarding campus wide environmental, health, safety, including hazardous waste management issues. The EHS Coordinator will also assist with training faculty and staff to operate at optimum safety and will inspect, maintain, update and improve campus safety. In addition, the EHS Coordinator will provide management and oversite of the University‰??s Chemical Emergency Management System (CEMS) program and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management.

Bachelor‰??s Degree in Safety, Environmental, Chemistry or related field
Three to five years of experience in safety, environmental, CHO, or related field
Demonstrated background in chemistry and biology preferred
Obtain New Hampshire Hazardous Waste Coordinator Certifications and required DOT training within 90 days of hire.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, regulations, codes, and guidelines as related to program area, computer skills including spreadsheets and database management.
Ability to provide accurate minutes and excellent writing skills required.
Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary.

Job Duties
Duty/Responsibility
Administration of the Chemical Emergency Management System (CEMS) program, with assistance from the EHS Manager. Includes management and program oversite to ensure chemical inventory for the campus is current and accurate. Also includes, but not limited to; providing training to authorized users on how to add and delete inventory from the CEMS, ensure that Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are added to the CEMS data base as needed and are current, assist and support faculty, staff and local response agencies (when applicable) in the proper use of CEMS.
Work with the EHS Manager to design, deliver and coordinate lab safety training and assist with implementing and completing other required and/or applicable EHS programs and training for laboratories. Assist with auditing areas and/or maintenance of records of all applicable safety and environmental training and inspections. Inform EHS manager, and/or appropriate management, regarding frequent or blatant violations. Train and assist faculty, staff, and students in learning proper use of EHS equipment and supplies.
Assist EHS Manager and identified faculty and staff with the implementation of the Chemical and Biological Safety Plan (CBSP) and Art Safety Procedures at the level of individual laboratories and studios. Work with identified faulty to explain and enforce the CBSP and Art Safety Procedures as necessary. Work with faculty and staff to monitor safe procurement, use, and disposal of chemicals.
Assist with running the Boyd Science Center Safety Committee. Assist with ensuring regular meetings are held and communicate EHS findings and chemical hygiene activities to the Committee, including safety audits, audits of the Chemical Hygiene Plan, CEMS updates, etc. Work with the EHS Manager, Biological Safety Committee, and Biological Safety Officer to develop and implement required EHS protocols and trainings. Participate on Biological Safety Committee, provide oversight and audit as needed to ensure compliance.
Assist the EHS Manager with hazardous waste management, including safety inspections of Satellite Accumulations Areas and 90 Day Storage Areas. Assist as needed with scheduling and coordinating waste pickups, and providing internal consulting to waste generators.
Assist EHS Manager with providing safety guidance for special events, including NFPA and life safety code requirements for large campus events. Assist with the development of policies, procedures, and best management practices as related. Manage the fire extinguisher program and attend annual building walk-throughs with local fire departments as needed.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of faculty, staff and students. Perform other functions as needed and identified in support of other EHS programs. Advise faculty, staff, and Plymouth State University administration on issues concerning EHS compliance and procedures under the regulations.
Accept additional duties, as required, to meet departmental and divisional goals and responsibilities. Assist in department and divisional functions serving the campus.
Support University‰??s response to critical incidents involving chemical releases.
