CHEMICAL COMPANY IN NAVI MUMBAI CATCHES FIRE; NO CASUALTIES

A chemical company in the MIDC area in Navi Mumbai caught fire in the early evening hours today.
Eight fire tankers were deployed to douse the fire, which is still raging on due to the chemicals. Fire broke out at the company premises' basement due to unknown reasons where the chemicals were stored. However, due to the combustible nature of the chemicals, the entire building was set ablaze. ‰??Eight fire tankers have managed to control the fire till now. However, we are working on cooling the area down as the chemicals are igniting and blasting causing small pocket fires,‰?? said Surendra Chaudhary, an officer in the MIDC Khirne fire department, who has been working on dousing the fire since 4:55 pm.
The fire department is uncertain about any human casualty as it is still too dangerous to try and entire the premises. ‰??We will have to wait till all chemicals are over. But it does not seem like anyone is trapped inside,‰?? Chaudhary said. The entire premises, however, have burnt out and there is 100% damage to property. The fire was serious but no noxious gases have leaked out. The other nearby populated areas are on high alert.

CREWS SET MASSIVE OVERNIGHT FIRE TO BURN OFF HAZMAT NEAR ELLENDALE

In the early hours of Saturday morning, hazmat crews detonated explosives and ignited the flammable contents of two tank cars involved in a train derailment near the southern Minnesota town of Ellendale.
Mayor Mark Schroch said the operation woke him up around 3:30 Saturday morning.
"Sounded like a big explosion," said Skroch. "When you looked out it was very vivid. You could see it was just burning profusely. And the flames shot maybe 150 to 200 feet in the air."
The explosions were designed to pierce the hulls of two cars, one carrying propane, the other butane.
Emergency crews had determined that the "vent and burn" procedure was their only option. "There was no other way to safely recover the flammable pressurized gas remaining in the LP car damaged in the derailment, and no way to access the scene to pump off the butane car," according to a statement from Steve Belau of the Rochester Fire Department.
