We use a PNNL developed system to track waste from the time it is received by the generator/researcher to disposal. The accumulation date is entered into the tracking system along with information about the
waste (e.g., chemical constituents and concentrations, generation location, etc.). The system sends out messages at 60-days into the clock and then again at 80-days into the clock. The notifications aid in making sure waste is scheduled to be shipped within
the 90-day clock. After it is shipped we have an administrative requirement to check on manifests that have not been returned within 30 days. We use our database to query manifests that have not been returned then check our contractor (i.e., Clean Harbors)
website for the status of the manifest. If the manifest has been received at the destination facility we download a PDF copy of the completed manifest for reference until we receive the physical copy in the mail. If the shipment has not been received we
contact our POC for the contract to obtain a status/ETA for the shipment to ensure it will be received within 45 days.
Thank you,

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Waste Handling Question
Hello everyone,
I’m curious to hear if anyone has an efficient electronic method they use to track waste materials from the time they leave the lab until the time they are manifested and leave the campus/company. What we currently have in place is a little cumbersome in that the data received from our online form has to be grabbed and physically input into Excel, so this makes a lot of unnecessary work for our CHMM.
Thank you in advance for your reply.
