Intro to TRI Webinar (October 13th) and the TRI National Training Conference

Register for October 13 Intro to TRI Webinar

It's your right to know about toxic chemicals that industrial facilities use and release into your environment. For almost 30 years, EPA's Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) has been the source for this critical information.

Nearly two-thirds of the U.S. population lives within three miles of a TRI facility…so what's going on in your neighborhood? Join us on Thursday, October 13, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. EDT for Introduction to TRI, a webinar intended for anyone interested in learning about the basics of the TRI Program. The webinar is also intended to give attendees of the upcoming October TRI Conference (see below) an excellent overview to help them prepare.

During this webinar, participants will learn about:

  • The right-to-know principle and the basics of the TRI Program.
  • How to find TRI data for a specific community or other geographic location.
  • How TRI can help promote pollution prevention.
  • What TRI can tell you about chemical hazards and risks.

Following the main presentation, participants will be able to ask questions of EPA's TRI Program staff, and even suggest topics for future webinars.

Introduction to TRI is the first in the TRI Program's new bi-monthly webinar series. Stay tuned for upcoming information about webinars for Winter 2016/2017.

In addition, the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC)'s meeting of the North American Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) Project is taking place one day prior to this year's Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) National Training Conference at the same venue.

The NAPRTR meeting is free of charge and brings together individuals from North American industry, government, nongovernmental organizations, academia, and the public-at- large who are interested in industrial pollution reporting to support environmental sustainability efforts throughout North America.

Officials from the region's three PRTR programs, Canada's National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI), Mexico's Registro de Emisiones y Transferencia de Contaminantes (RETC), and the United States' Toxics Release Inventory (TRI), will present updates on their respective programs and invite questions from the audience.

In addition, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the upcoming 15th edition of the CEC's Taking Stock report, which provides a comprehensive analysis of North American industrial pollution data.  Participants will be invited to share ideas about suitable topics for special analyses in future reports.

Participants will also explore the latest trilateral pollution data and tools available through the CEC's Taking Stock Online website, including a new watersheds search parameter that lets users pinpoint multiple industrial facilities reporting pollutant releases and transfers within important North American watersheds.
