All:
The chemical safety workshops in Lexington, KY have been CONFIRMED for October 13 and 14th, 2016. The workshops will be held at the Fairfield Inn, Georgetown/Lexington.
October 13: “Effective Chemical Safety Management: A Risk-Based Perspective:” This workshop is designed for those responsible for chemical safety in their workplace. After an initial introduction to the Laboratory Standard and Chemical Hygiene Plans, we will cover introductory toxicology, foundational laboratory chemical hood evaluation, standard operating procedure development and the importance of waste management. We then move deep discussion of hazard and risk. Then, using a variety risk management tools such as the LabRAT and "What-if," we evaluate common research tasks and scientific field work. The day is wrapped up with a session of "Ask Dr. Safety" so that participants can get their EH&S questions answered before they leave.
October 14th: “Research Without Rules: Process Safety Management for Research and Small Scale Chemical Processes: This workshop is a follow-on workshop to Effective Chemical Safety Management. With a firm foundation of a Chemical Hygiene Plan already in place, Research Without Rules expands risk management foundations by applying the principles found in OSHA's Process Safety Management Standard to the research and small-scale chemical processing environment (such as scale-up and pilot plant operations). We then introduce and use four risk assessment tools (LabRAT, LabHAZOP, LabFMEA and What-if) to a number of common research, scale-up and pilot plant scenarios. We will thoroughly cover change management and what change management looks like in a research environment.
Registration is ongoing at MCS’s website: http://www.midwestchemsafety.com/workshop.php. ACS/AIHA members $325; $350 non-members. Take both for $500 (members) $550 (non-members).
