The industrial chemical 4-Methylcyclohexanemethanol (MCHM)(RN: 34885-03-5) and other potentially toxic substances spilled into the Elk River near Charleston, West Virginia on January 9, 2014. Limited information on the human health effects was known about MCHM and several of the other chemicals.
The National Toxicology Program (NTP) was tasked with conducting toxicity studies of the primary chemicals found in the spill. The NTP has finished its spill research. The final update, collective findings, and files are available at http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/results/areas/wvspill/collective.html.
