I have no policy, but the sound technology has progressed so that we can have stage managers wearing head sets which block110 dBA music, gun shots and pyrotechnics and can still hear conversation near by. Or musicians in the pit who can block out tympani and horns and still hear the flute. Amazing stuff they have now. I don't know if any of this has made it to the sciences. But requiring special head ear muffs that are not connectable to iPods might be a way to go.
