Hypoallergenic is an almost unregulated term.  The FDA did have rules based on the standard animal tests for skin sensitization, but two cosmetic companies took them to court and got the whole rule overturned.  The only FDA rule in which the word "hypoallergenic" occurs is the one for medical devices.  Any medical device containing natural rubber cannot be labeled "hypoallergenic."   Other than that, any manufacturer can legally put this label on any damn thing.

And since people can be allergic to almost any damn thing, and since the plastic parts of goggles and glasses are made with complex mixtures of many, many damn things, you are on your own with this quest.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] hypoallergenic goggles?

I'm looking for a chemical-splash type laboratory safety goggle for an individual with sensitive skin, who has experienced a contact allergic skin reaction when wearing goggles in the past.  Is anyone aware of a goggle that is =E2=80=98hypoallergenic' or, based on your experience, less likely to cause skin/allergic reactions?

Thanks,
SJM
