DCHAS members may be interested to know that a new edition of "On Being a Scientist: A Guide to Responsible Conduct in Research: Third Edition‰?? is out. It includes a full page on Laboratory Safety in Research, mentioning a a March 2006 explosion at the National Institute of Higher Learning in Chemistry in Mulhouse, France, that killed a distinguished researcher and caused $130 million in damage. It suggests that researchers should review information and procedures about safety issues at least once a year and includes a short checklist of topics to cover.

This appears to be a significant increase in coverage from the 2nd edition.
