My experience w/ cold rooms in biomedical laboratories was that these are self-contained "boxes" w/out ventilation so if moisture is introduced, it will promote mold growth. I had to decontaminate some cold rooms because of mold. Making sure the doors have an auto close feature and preventing folks from propping the doors are good measures to take along w/ users understanding that bringing certain materials in could increase moisture levels. Installing de-humidifiers can also be helpful.

For those of you that have cold rooms, do you have an SOP that you do for them as far as general guidelines? We have had a moisture problem here that is mostly resolved, but now we need to sanitize the rooms. If you have a best practices or guidelines that you have followed, would you be willing to share?

 

Even something that I can share with the scientists to help with keeping the rooms in best condition would be very helpful.
