An employee at Hamilton Sundstrand in Windsor Locks was taken to the hospital after a chemical spill on Tuesday morning.
Crews responded to a hazmat incident at the aerospace company on Schoephoester Road just before 10 a.m.
Less than a gallon of ammonia hydroxide spilled from a container in one of the smaller buildings on the Hamilton Sundstrand campus, according to company spokesperson, Sylvio Albino.
There were only 15 people in the building at the time of the spill and the facilty was evacuated, Albino said.

(STMW) ‰?? Three people were taken to hospitals after an ammonia leak at a factory Tuesday afternoon in the Northwest Side Irving Park neighborhood.
A Level 2 HazMat response was called was at Koch Foods Inc. at 4405 W. Berteau because of the ammonia leak, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight.
Three workers were taken to hospitals, where their conditions stabilized, Knight said.
The HazMat situation has been secured by the fire department.

HANOVER, Pa. (AP) - A central Pennsylvania chemical company says preliminary information shows an electrical circuit malfunction likely caused a massive manufacturing plant fire that burned for more than 12 hours.
Miller Chemical and Fertilizer said Monday it‰??s also installed a large above-ground tank to contain runoff and prevent water from entering Slagle Run and Conewago Creek.
Last week, officials said thousands of dead fish had been seen over a 10- to 15-mile span of the creek after the June 8 fire in Conewago, Adams County.
State environmental officials are monitoring Conewago Creek for contaminants. Miller Chemical says the creek‰??s oxygen levels have improved.
Miller Chemical says it manufactures nonhazardous crop protection and nutritional agrochemicals.

ROAD BACK OPEN IN KNOX CO. AFTER TRUCK CARRYING POOL CHEMICALS C

KNOX COUNTY, Ohio - Ohio 661 is back open in southern Knox County after a truck carrying pool chemicals crashed near Ward Road.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the tanker crashed into a ditch at about 10:30 a.m. Monday
Troopers had said earlier the truck was leaking acid but it was later determine no leak had occurred. However, about 1,000 gallons of bleach spilled during the crash.
According to the driver of the truck, he was carrying pool supplies at the time of the crash. A wrecker was able to eventually pull the truck out of the ditch. The Ohio EPA and a clean up crew are overseeing the removal of the chemicals. The driver, uninjured in the crash, was cited by Ohio Highway Patrol for failure to control his vehicle.

Two Kansas University students were taken to area hospitals after a chemical reaction around noon Monday in Malott Hall shattered a glass beaker and fume hood, authorities said.
The injuries, which were caused by breaking glass, were not life-threatening, said Capt. James Anguiano of the KU Public Safety Office.
One student was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, while the other was taken to Stormont-Vail HealthCare in Topeka, Anguiano said.
No smoke or fire alarms were set off by the accident, and the building was not evacuated, said KU spokeswoman Erinn Barcomb-Peterson. Malott Hall remained open.

FARMINGTON HILLS ICE ARENA EVACUATED AFTER CHEMICAL LEAK

The Farmington Hills Ice Arena was closed for about three hours Sunday afternoon as firefighters and a HAZMAT team investigated a potentially dangerous chemical leak.
According to Farmington Hills Fire Department Lt. Jamie Neufeld, a power outage and eventual surge that impacted the the area of M-5 and Drake Road likely caused the relief valve on the anhydrous ammonia to vent and thus triggered an alarm.
Neufeld said the arena, which had about 30-40 people inside, was evacuated immediately as anhydrous ammonia is dangerous to breathe. The chemical is often used by farmers as fertilizer and by the ice arena to keep the surface cold.
‰??When our first units got there, they went toward the tank and heard hissing,‰?? Neufeld said. ‰??The relief value did operate properly and there might have been a small release, but we are always going to be a little more on the safe side because it‰??s an extremely hazardous substance.‰??

CLEANUP EFFORT UNDERWAY AFTER MASSIVE CHEMICAL PLANT FIRE

HANOVER, Pa. (WHTM) ‰?? The Miller Chemical and Fertilizer plant is working closely with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to monitor water contamination. This, after emergency crews extinguished a fire at the Hanover facility on June 8.
According to the DEP, thousands of fish likely died due to runoff from the Miller site which reduced the concentration of oxygen and increased the presence of nitrogen compounds in the Conewago Creek.
The plant has acquired a large above ground tank to contain water pumped from those areas that have been affected.
The DEP confirmed that runoff water has been stopped from entering Slagle Run and Conewago Creek. In addition, no water systems of nearby municipalities have been contaminated.
