"Accidents in Engineering Laboratories" a research project from Mar=C3=ADa Alfonsina Salazar, a post grade student in Sustainable Development, from University of Sonora in M=C3=A9xico.
Abstract: The occurrence of accidents in laboratories of Higher Education's Institutions has picked up in recent years. This could be in part to
1.. The lack of use of personal protective equipment,
2.. The failure to implement specific regulations about the use of equipment and how to work with hazardous materials, and
3.. Errors caused by workplace blindness, carelessness by laboratory users, etc.
The relevance of these factors are the reason to identify what the most common occurrences are in order to correct errors and avoid these accidents to happen again.
In this research, a list is displayed with accidents known to be occurring in the laboratories of the University of Sonora's Department of Engineering, between the years 2010 to 2014. In this list the reader can find the type of accident and percentage of occurrence, causes, and suggestions from the students to improve the safety, etc.
Guest Speaker: This research is been doing by Maria Alfonsina Salazar Escoboza from Mexico, who is studying a post grade in Sustainable Development at the University of Sonora. Currently, she is at The Laboratory Safety Institute as International Intern, to collaborate and learn from the LSI members =B4 knowledge and experience to enrich her thesis project named: "Accidents in Engineering Laboratories".
