Hi Debbie,
We use aluminum heating blocks on hot plates for all of our syntheses these days. I had them custom made by J KEM to fit our round bottoms. The up-front cost is a bit, but they are less than what I found
for the coated ones. You can have them made with a thermometer hole to fit a thermocouple in to better control the temp.
Good luck,

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Options to replace oil baths for heating
Good morning:
I need to offer some options to replace oil (silicone or mineral) with a different material for heating baths. I’m also looking at heating block options and have a number of suppliers to review – cost may be an issue here.
Ideas? The Google has failed me this morning.
