Subject: Speed Networking with Chemistry Professionals Event in San Francisco
Hi Neal,
Thank you for volunteering to participate in the “Undergraduate Speed Networking with Chemistry Professionals” event in San Francisco. The event will be held Monday, August 11, 2014, from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m., in the Moscone Convention Center, Room 134. A flyer and a sheet with general information and tips are attached.
We appreciate your interest in the undergraduate student members of ACS and your willingness to volunteer your time for the speed networking event.
If you think back to when you were an undergraduate student, you probably knew that you loved studying chemistry, but you weren’t at all sure about what you could do with a chemistry degree once you graduated. Imagine how helpful it would it have been to talk to real-world chemists about their careers and hear first-hand out about the opportunities that are available in the chemical field.
This event will consist of a series of eight-minute conversations with students, where the main goal is for the undergraduates learn more about the career and education pathways that are available to them as chemists. We will have 50 cocktail rounds in the room and are hoping to have a chemist available at each to speak to students. Every eight minutes, students will rotate to a new table.
If any of your colleagues will be attending the ACS national meeting in San Francisco, please let them know that we are still seeking chemists who have careers in traditional and non-traditional areas of chemistry. We’re looking for chemists from all job sectors. The greater the diversity we have among the volunteers, the better the experience will be for the students.
We are excited that you will be participating in the “Undergraduate Speed Networking with Chemistry Professionals” event and we look forward to meeting and working with you in San Francisco.
Best Regards,
Lori Betsock
