Hi Kristi,
If the lab has been totally decontaminated and cleaned up well ,I don’t see a problem with food preparation . We have a procedure of total lab decontamination
before renovation and or construction on our website if you want to use it a model for your school
http://www.ehs.umass.edu/decommissioning-laboratory-space-prior-relocation-demolition-or-renovation
Afterward, maybe label the lab as” food preparation lab only no chemicals deliveries or handling allowed” .
Best regards,

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Food in a former lab space
Would any of you or your organizations permit food in a laboratory space that does not currently house chemicals, nor have current work going on with chemicals?
Specifically, would you permit a class involving food preparation to occur in a lab space that the previous semester was used for a freshman level general chemistry class, even if the area were "cleaned" and all chemicals removed?
Thanks,
Kristi
