Hi Richard,

It is my understanding that any flammable solvent, should be stored in ventilated fumehoods/underhood cabinets that are vented to the hoods(we keep ours in the yellow flammable ducted cabinets). If any of your solvents are flammable (which they are in this case) they need the locking handle in case of explosion, but the outside vents/ducts are standard for airflow and are necessary for fumes. They are covered by the lip in the yellow cabinets in the case of spills, but secondary containment, even as simple as a pyrex dish, could be helpful if you're worried about spills. Also note that acids and bases are required to be kept in separate cabinets so that you aren't at risk for explosive reactions if they spill. Hope that this helps!

We are planning to use these for flammable solvents, and reactions involving HCl and NaOH. These hoods will be used by undergraduates for research also. Any input on the safety issues involved with these equipments versus the regular hoods would be appreciated.
