All,
Bob Hill has already responded that the ACS Committee on Chemical Safety is indeed beginning the process of preparing the 8th edition of SACL. The revision will be a team effort and I’m in charge
of this process. One obvious task in this revision is simply to update some aspects of the booklet based on changes in the world of safety in the past several years. For example, we need to write about the GHS and SDSs. However, any other changes will be
prompted by feedback from users! So… if you use SACL in your program and wish to express your thoughts about what you like or dislike, you can send them directly to me at

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Status of "Safety in Academic Chemistry Laboratories, Vol. 1"
I’ve heard rumors that the ACS is working to update their publication,
Safety in Academic Chemistry Laboratories, Vol. 1. The idea is to create an 8th Edition that includes GHS/SDS and other necessary changes.
Here’s my question: Can anyone tell me the status of this project and its projected publication date?
