General Tips
1. The people taking the photos must follow the safety rules for all occupants of the lab.
2. Someone (e.g., safety officer, lab manager, lab safety coordinator) should accompany the photographer during the sessions to ensure all safety procedures are followed and to point out problematic circumstances as the photos are composed.
3. All PPE and safety requirements must be followed, even if photo scenario is staged, props are used or using nonhazardous material (e.g. water).
a. Lab coat must be closed/buttoned
b. Safety goggles for everyone in a Chemistry research lab
c. Safety eyewear must be worn if handling labware: pipettes, flasks, etc
d. If most everyone in picture is wearing safety eyewear, then everyone must wear safety eyewear.
e. Gloves must be worn when handling labware
f. No food/drink allowed in labs. Check backgrounds.
4. Prepare the lab for the photos. Look at background for unsafe conditions.
a. Straightening, arranging, and moving trash cans out of sight.
b. Lab clutter, improper use of electrical and extension cords, unlabeled reagent containers, tripping hazards, improper clothing, food and beverage in the lab.
c. No lab coats hanging on compressed gas cylinders.
d. No blocked exits, blocked fire extinguishers, blocked safety showers and eyewashes, hallway storage and exit paths.
Group,
Does anyone have guidelines developed for portraying PPE in videos and print? The audience is the communications folks. I thought this was previously covered but could not find my reference.
Thanks in advance!
