The real story with that spill is that the chemical, CAS # 34885-30-5, has never been studied for either acute or chronic toxicity according to the SDSs I have pulled down, so they re all blowing smoke about how toxic it is or not.
And as I was crawling around the net, I also found that fragrance companies have been using and selling this chemical as well since it smells like licorice. So it's in the consumer sector as well.
