Contaminated slurry has leaked at a uranium mine in the Northern Territory, raising environmental concerns for Kakadu National Park.
The mine is surrounded by Kakadu National Park and is located about 230 kilometres east of Darwin.
The Ranger mine's operator, Energy Resources of Australia, says the leak occured at 1am.
Workers were evacuated before the tank burst and "a mixture of slurry escaped".
"Upon discovery of a hole in the side of the tank, personnel were removed from the nearby area before the tank failed and a mixture of slurry escaped," ERA said in a statement.
"The slurry moved outside the bunded containment area, but has been captured and contained on site. As the material was contained within the processing area there is no impact on the environment surrounding the Ranger Project Area."
Traditional owner groups say they hold fears about the potential environment impact on Kakadu National Park.

AN ARMY BOMB disposal unit dealt with a highly explosive chemical at a school in Sutton, Dublin earlier today.
The team was deployed at 10am this morning and returned to base shortly after 11am. The chemical is a common substance found in school labs, called dinitrophenylhydrazine, or ?Brady?s re-agent?.
It can become unstable over time if it dries out and it is also relatively sensitive to shock and friction so it can detonate if subjected to shock, like a fall.

A United Parcel Service facility in Uniondale was evacuated Friday morning after a corrosive substance leaked from a package, causing odor and smoke, the company said.
Police and firefighters responded to the UPS facility on Oak Street, just south of Commercial Avenue, shortly before 6 a.m. after a 911 call reported a hazmat situation, UPS spokeswoman Susan Rosenberg said.
She said three workers reported minor health problems. One vomited and one complained of burning eyes, but the nature of the third complaint was not known, she said.
All were treated at the scene and returned to the building with other workers about 11:30 a.m. after local emergency officials gave the all-clear, she said.
Nassau County police were unable to provide any information about the nature of the hazardous material.

NC STATE FRACKING COMMISSION CONSIDERS PUTTING CHEMICAL DATA IN ?ELECTRONIC LOCK BOX?

RALEIGH The N.C. Mining and Energy Commission has come up with yet another potential solution to the thorny problem of how to deal with chemicals that will be used in fracking. The commissioners want the chemical data to be safeguarded in an ?electronic lock box? that could be accessed digitally in the event of a chemical spill or other accident.
For more than a year, commissioners have tried to decide how to handle situations in which energy companies claim that chemical cocktails used in shale gas exploration are competitive trade secrets and must be shielded from the public. State lawmakers, who will have final say over fracking standards, have warned they will not tolerate safety rules that threaten the prospects for energy exploration in North Carolina.
The commissioners have tried to walk a fine line to appease lawmakers, the oil-and-gas industry as well as residents who live in the largely rural areas that could see drill derricks and gas production. And they have run out of options to procrastinate making a decision.

A Boiler used in chemical refineries exploded in an open scrap godown in MIDC area in Dombivali Friday, killing three people. A huge chunk of the boiler was flung almost a kilometre from the explosion site.
The explosion killed two workers, who were dismantling the boiler using a gas cutter, on the spot, police said. While a chunk, which was flung a kilometre away, killed a driver who was cleaning a car, another landed atop a shanty wrecking it. The explosion also caused tremors in nearby buildings and metal pieces shattered window panes.
"It sounded like a bomb blast and before we could know what had happened, a metal sheet of about 300 kgs came crashing through my terrace and shattered my makeshift roof. My father was seated next to the roof but he escaped miraculously. The sheet was so heavy that it took six people to lift it later. There were more than eight people at my house preparing for a party at night for our 26th wedding anniversary," said Mahesh Lahote, a businessperson.

GRAYSON, Ky. (WSAZ) ? A pile of rubble now stands where a gas station stood just hours before.
The Grayson Fire Chief tells WSAZ.com the explosion appears to have resulted from workers removing gas tanks from the Somerset Oil station on East Main Street in Grayson. He said they may have hit a natural gas line that caused a leak. Before emergency crews could get there to assist with the leak, there was an explosion just before 6 p.m.
?They was standing about right in here when it blew up, so they was very lucky,? Chief Greg Felty said, gesturing to the piles of debris. ?The building blew from the inside out.?
Randy McGuire, the owner of Somerset Oil, told WSAZ.com he decided to close the gas station for good yesterday because it would be too expensive for him to comply with environmental regulations.
?We went out with a bang,? McGuire said.
