Thursday morning 5 News received reports that some sort of bomb went off in a Lewis County school. After some digging we found out those rumors were true and Lewis County High School was on lockdown for about an hour.
One or more students apparently put together some type of chemical explosive using Drano and aluminum foil then threw it in the boys locker room, but luckily no one was hurt.
Deputies told 5 News the PRO officer at the school was alerted about the incident and issued a Code Yellow, which is a chemical lockdown. The kids weren't allowed to leave their classrooms, but they didn't have to stay in their seats like with a Code Red. Officials decided a Code Yellow was needed so they could clean up the mess, but more importantly so they could talk to students about what happened. Lieutenant Dave Parks explained exactly how this bottle exploded.
"There's particular things that create chemical reactions and if you put them together where they cannot breathe like they did in a plastic pop bottle, then the compression builds up and it eventually explodes," said Lt. Parks, Lewis County Sheriff's Department.

FEAR, SHOCK AT CHEMICAL SPILL

POSSESSION of deadly chemicals by individuals and businesses has raised serious questions on the safety of people and the environment.
The concern was raised following a chemical spill at the Town Ground plaza on Monday afternoon which produced a thick yellow smoke that brought shock and fear to passers-by and workers at the Plaza.
An eye witness who worked as a security guard at the area said the incident was frightening.
?We were shocked to see the yellow like smoke coming from the spill chemical. It is my first time to see such a smoke,? Jack Nanisia said.
He said the Chinese who handled the containers of chemical were just lucky that the chemical did not pour on him.
?Because when the chemical spilled onto the back of the vehicle it looks as if it melts up the rubber and eats up the iron trailer producing a sudden smoke like an explosion.
?But luckily we quickly spray it with water. It looked very frightening,? Mr Nanisia expressed.
An Australian national Patrick Jumeau, who also witnessed the incident, said the spill must be that of a dangerous acid.

A chemical spill at Aerojet Rockedyne in Rancho Cordova sent seven people to the hospital Wednesday morning, the second industrial accident at the campus in two weeks.
The incident occurred around 8:35 a.m. inside a facility owned by AMPAC Fine Chemicals, which is a tenant, according to Aerojet officials. The two companies are not related.
Workers in one of AFC?s manufacturing plants were attempting to move a container of chemical byproducts when the forklift accidentally punctured the metal container, causing the spill, said Jeff Robinson, a spokesman for the company.
?The material spilled to a contained area, and we subsequently cleaned it up,? Robinson said. ?There was absolutely no exposure to the environment or to the surrounding community.?
Approximately 200 gallons of chemical waste were spilled, he said.

More than a dozen employees at the Massachusetts Information Technology Center in Chelsea were sickened Tuesday due to the apparent after effects of an overnight cleaning crew that fumigated the office building just hours before the start of the workday.
According to the Boston Globe, Chelsea safety officials arrived at 200 Arlington St. around 10 a.m. yesterday, at which point a number of workers were exiting the property and complaining of nausea and dizziness. Approximately 14 people were treated at the scene while four others were taken to a nearby hospital, the newspaper reported. Approximately 1,500 people work at the building, which is owned by the commonwealth of Massachusetts.
?What happened is they were doing some fumigation over the night and when employees came in this morning they started to feel nauseous and dizzy,? Chelsea Deputy Fire Chief John Quatieri told the Globe. ?Most people just needed to get out in the fresh air.?

The 300,000-gallon, mile-long river of cow manure that hit Dane County on Nov. 24 is the second such occurrence this year that could impact Madison's lakes.
According to Department of Natural Resources records, a pipeline breach in February at the UW-Madison's Arlington agricultural research station in the town of Leeds in Columbia County also released 300,000 gallons of manure. Like the spill last week near Waunakee, the one in Leeds happened in the Lake Mendota watershed.
DNR officials say they can't comment on the research station incident because the agency is still in the midst of enforcement proceedings in the case.
