A suspicious leak from a semi prompts a hazardous materials call on Interstate 80.
Late Thursday afternoon at a rest stop near the Odessa exit. Crews found a 55 gallon drum of cleaning solution had started leaking.
The truck at the rest area was carrying 40 different types of chemicals on its way to a Kimball waste treatment center.
Buffalo County Hazmat crews from both Kearney and Gibbon responded, receiving aide from Hastings Hazmat crews as well.

Perry residents who live near the Anglian Water plant have been advised to close all windows and doors after a chlorine alarm sounded at 8am.
Anglian Water‰??s head of communications, Ciaran Nelson, said the leak had been contained to a storage building but the gas needed to be dispersed.
He added: ‰??In order for us to get in and repair where the leak is we need to do a controlled vent of that building.
‰??When we do that it‰??s a standard matter of process that chlorine alarms go off, so in the village of Perry, the alarms will have gone off.
‰??The best advice is to get indoors and shut doors and windows. Then there‰??s an all-clear alarm which will be a couple of hours after the first alarm goes off.
‰??There‰??s not very much for people to worry about - there‰??s no risk to public health at all.‰??

PITTSBURGH (AP) ‰?? A landmark federal study on hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, shows no evidence that chemicals from the natural gas drilling process moved up to contaminate drinking water aquifers at a western Pennsylvania drilling site, the Department of Energy told The Associated Press.
After a year of monitoring, the researchers found that the chemical-laced fluids used to free gas trapped deep below the surface stayed thousands of feet below the shallower areas that supply drinking water, geologist Richard Hammack said.
Although the results are preliminary ‰?? the study is still ongoing ‰?? they are a boost to a natural gas industry that has fought complaints from environmental groups and property owners who call fracking dangerous.

LAKEWOOD -- Safety officials are investigating a small scale meth lab fire that took place early Wednesday inside a Quail Street house.
According to reports, a man, 26, is recovering at MetroHealth hospital after he jumped from the window of the house when the ingredients caught fire.
The fire took place around 12:30 a.m. at a duplex in the 2000 block of Quail.
Firefighters called for narcotics investigators once they realized they were dealing with a meth lab fire, officials said.

Four area fire departments responded to a lab fire Wednesday afternoon at Aldrich Chemical in the Town of Wilson, according to the Sheboygan County Sheriff‰??s Office.
Lt. Mark Rupnik said in a news release that the fire was reported just before 2 p.m. inside a lab at the Aldrich Chemical plant located at 5485 county Highway V.
The fire was extinguishing by an internal fire suppression system.
No injuries were reported, and no damage estimate was available

If you‰??re a police officer, a mobile methamphetamine lab might be near the top.
But that‰??s what a Syracuse police officer found Saturday, when he quickly removed a nylon bag of what was supposed to be clothes from his squad car after noticing a peculiar smell.
Fortunately for the squad car ‰?? and the officer ‰?? he discovered the source of the scent moments before the bag exploded into flames.
So, how did it get there?

MDEQ CONFIRMS CHEMICAL SPILL AT HATTIESBURG WOOD PRESERVATION PLANT

According to Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality Communications Director Robbie Wilbur, a chemical spill occurred late last month at Southern Wood Preserving, located at 627 Hood Rd. in the Palmer's Crossing community.
Wilbur said 200 gallons of Chromated Copper Arsenate were spilled, which has subsequently been contained, and was reported to MDEQ on June 28.
Chromated Copper Arsenate is a chemical used in wood preservation since the 1940s. According to the Centers for Disease Control, wood treated with CCA has shown to leach arsenic, chromium and copper into soil it is contact with.
Wilbur said the MDEQ officials are monitoring the cleanup at the spill site.

TOTOWA ‰?? Firefighters are spraying water on drums to prevent the spread of hydrogen peroxide at the Passaic Valley Water Commission water treatment plant in Totowa.
The water commission requested a hazardous materials team at 6:44 a.m. today.
Executive director Joe Bella tells NorthJersey.com the drums began "fuming and venting," possibly because of the heat wave.
Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik issued a statement saying there's no danger to the public. Berdnik says hazardous material crews have contained the chemical.

Bob Spieldenner with the Va. Dept. of Emergency Management said a plume of acid fumes from a bath of nitric acid formed, prompting the alert. It's a chemical used in the removal of metal coatings.
The Newport News Regional Haz‰??Mat Response Team responded after the situation was first reported around 2:30 a.m. and made an initial assessment. Battalion Chief Steve Pincus said crews continued to monitoring air quality.
VDEM Hazmat officer Todd Cannon said a heat source attached to a tank inside the business was left on and that caused the chemical to overheat. As a safety precaution, the tank released the pressure in a gas form.
13News Now found that the company is under investigation by the Environmental Protection Agency. Spokeswoman Donna Heron says the investigation stems from an inspection that took place in September 2010, but she declined to disclose the nature of the violation. Online records obtained from the EPA show the company has been out of compliance every quarter since the 2010 inspection.
